Jogak

The word ‘jogak’ means ‘a piece’ in Korean. This solo exhibition carries pieces of nostalgia, reminiscence, and reflections of a second-generation Korean Canadian. Translated through multimedia, these diasporic experiences are encapsulated into physical forms.

Victoria Haseung Jung is a Korean Canadian multidisciplinary artist, born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto Scarborough, double majoring in the Studio Art and French programs. Her work focuses on encapsulating personal, diasporic, and cultural experiences. Through artmaking, Victoria Haseung aims to illustrate the complex sentiments of life and translate our shared human experiences into physical forms. Through textiles, photography, and sculpture, she experiments with diverse materials to express her concepts, aspiring to evoke emotion, reflection, and resonance in her viewers. With a passion for studying different materials and techniques, Victoria Haseung’s work often combines traditional and contemporary elements from Eastern and Western artistic cultures.

The exhibition is on display in the Meeting Place on March 27-28 and in the gallery on April 1-5.
