SELF (2021)

LAUNCH.png

Our cultures cannot be separated from our identities. The search to understand ourselves it is often a lifelong endeavour, but it begins with reflection. This summer we have decided to invite artists to allow us to see how they marry their culture with their induvial identities in their daily lives. The name of the exhibition is Self. A break from the frequent misrepresentation, misinformation, and misjudgements that headline stories on virtual platforms, Self reappropriates the lens. The narratives are native to the artists and meaningful in their essence and execution.

Self (2021) pushes us to ask how our collectivist cultures are experienced individually. Each piece within the exhibition embodies reflection and a pursuit for the Self.

Featuring the works of Eirini Abadeer (Copts), Chawntay Barrett (Jab Parody), Evelyn Benoit (Selection from the Queer Portrait Series), Arthur Dennyson Hamdani (In A Box), Constanza Farias (Obliviating), Noor Gatih (Hadeeka), Mariel Gonzalez (Me, Myself, and I), Cholena Kouyoumdijan (The Little Things), Rika Nakane (Hokusai and Me), and Mortasha (The Prayer).

Opened Monday, July 26, 2021.

Please contact Gallery 1265 for potential exhibition archival.
