The environment can be the setting of the natural world or the living conditions where one functions. As technology advances, a social environment is created through electronic means, causing a disconnect with nature. Using various techniques in traditional and digital mediums, artists in the Studio, New Media, Computer Science, and Biology programs explore growth, development, and identity in relation to natural and digital environments. The arts and science backgrounds of the artists reflect unique perspectives and styles as the two are contrasted and combined through topics that include wildlife, pollution, habitat, and social media. The power dynamics of nature vs. technology and the outdoor world vs. the online world are shown through the way the artists think about them and are influenced by them.
